Flowing water ecology of alpine waters – Oberstdorf

Kleiner Wasserfall

27. October 2023

– Wild alpine rivers from the mountain to the valley –

One of the most impressive geotopes of the Allgäu region is certainly the Breitachklamm. It is the deepest rock gorge in the whole of Central Europe! It was formed about 10,000 years ago when the melting water of the Breitach glacier made its way through the mountain. Adits and bridges make the gorge accessible all year round

The Iller is formed by the confluence of the Trettach, Stillach and Breitach rivers. As you can guess, the region is really exciting to explore hydrogeographically.

Excursion to the river ecology at the Breitach, determination of the water quality, creation of a saprobia index, excursion to the topic “barrier-free fish migration” in connection with birdwatching. In addition, extensive information is provided on river ecology, river management, beaver management, and the geology of the region.
